Hello! My name is Mrs. Kris Whitcher and I am the K-6 Physical Education teacher at Orchard Hill and also part-time at North Cedar. Just a brief introduction for you--

Rules for Physical Education class:
1. Tennis shoes are needed for class. Students cannot participate without gym shoes and they must be tied.
(Note: Some of the tennis shoes styles that have very thick (high) soles or those with no backs (clog style) are not safe. Please check with your child to see that they have appropriate foot wear on physical education days!) - (rollers are not allowed)
2. Wear comfortable clothes on gym days. Do not bring jewelry or valuables to class.
3. A parent note, or note from the nurse, is needed for your child to be excused from class. A doctor's note is needed anytime an illness exceeds one week or the six day cycle.
4. A strong emphasis of the pillars of character are stressed in all gym classes. A traveling shoe will be awarded to classes with good
character---bring tennis shoes, listen the first time, show teamwork, show best effort, and in general--kids of character
5. There is also no gum or candy allowed in gym class.

Physical Fitness Testing:
The students in 4-6 grade will be participating in the "Fitnessgram" --a physical fitness assessment. Third grade students will also practice some of the fitnessgram test items, however, no scores will be kept. In May, an evaluation will be sent home about their fitness.
The fitnessgram will include the following items:
Curl-ups--Abdominal Testing strength and endurance
Pull-ups--Arm/shoulder Testing strength and endurance
Sit and Reach--Flexibility Testing Lower back and hamstring
Pacer/Mile--Cardiorespiratory Testing Endurance
