8th Grade English

Welcome to 8th Grade English

BOARD POLICY 603.3 Selection of Learning Resources. Learning resources are selected by the school district to support its educational goals and objectives and to implement, enrich, and support the instructional program. Resources must serve the breadth and depth of the curriculum and provide for the needs and interests of individual students. It is the obligation of the district to provide intellectual and physical access to materials that cover a wide range of abilities and many differing points of view. To this end, principles of intellectual freedom must be placed above personal opinion, and reason above prejudice, in the selection of resources. In the event resources are questioned, the principles of intellectual freedom shall be defended rather than specific resources. The Board recognizes the right of individual parents to request that their child not be required to read, view or listen to specific resources, provided a written request is made to the appropriate building principal.

On my assignment page, you can expect to find what we worked on in class each day, homework assignments and due dates for the assignments, and upcoming test dates. The departmental grading scale will be handed out on the first full day of classes. This should be clipped in the very front of the three-ring binder which is required for my class. I strongly believe that a student's success depends on a collaborative effort between the teacher and home. I will therefore be using the morning assistance plan to help struggling students in my classes. Please take a look at the morning assistance contract on the Holmes Web Site. I will be using this contract to notify the student and home of a student's need to work with me on missing and/or incomplete assignments either before or after school. I am looking forward to a fun and rewarding year.
