Parents,
Thanks for coming to conferences. It takes both the home and the school working together to educate a child to help them learn. There are many the things they need to know to become productive people.
Activities for the Week:
Vocabulary - “Five Food Groups - Bread/Grain”
We will be naming and drawing pictures of bread products. Help your child name and describe them. Look in books, newspapers, and magazines.
Fairy Tale - “Little Red Riding Hood”
Please send any books or items you may have about this fairy tale to school for sharing. Read and practice retelling this fairy tale with your child at home together.
Language Concepts - around/through
Practice and review these words at home with your child. Ask them to use these words using items that are in your house or yard.
Social Studies - “Look at Calendars”
We will make a calendar. Hang a calendar in your house for your child. Show him special days for your family, special holidays, and let him mark off each day on the calendar.
Science - “From Wheat to Bread”
We will read about how the plant, wheat is grown, it is harvested, and made into bread and other products.
Health - “Dinner”
We will read about how to make a balanced dinner meal using the five food groups.
Weekly Reader - “Thanksgiving”
We will read about the holiday of Thanksgiving. Talk to your child about what you will do on this holiday with your family.
Mini-Book - “My Family”
The first grade students should read the mini story booklets to you that they have colored and bring home each Friday. They should use their finger to point under the words as they read to you.
!!! Parent/Student Homework - Have your child tell you about/read to you all of the papers/booklets that they bring home everyday. Each student has reading and math activities everyday at their ability level. Your child can practice writing, reading, and spelling
their name, alphabet, letter/sounds, words, numbers, shapes, spelling words - drawing, coloring, and cutting pictures for homework. ***Use the flash cards that you have or any that I have sent home. (shapes, colors, letters, beginning sounds, numbers, reading words, addition or subtraction facts)

Reminder: No classes for students on Wednesday. Teachers will be in professional development meetings all day.
