Volcano Web Quest

Now that we have studied all of the aspects of volcanoes, your mission is to demonstrate to me that you understand the information we have covered. To do this we are going to do a volcano web quest. Complete each of the missions below and answer the questions or complete what is asked of you. For this project, ~ you may create a word document or create a power point presentation with the information gathered from the tasks below.~
Mission #1 Find three different images of your favorite volcanic eruptions. Copy and paste the picture into your sheet along with the URL from the website. Then explain you chose these as your favorites.
Mission #2 About how many active volcanoes are there today?
The most explosive volcanoes occur where?
Which type of volcano reaches only 1000 meters high? Give an example.
Which type of volcano is very explosive AND turns into a mountain? Give an example.
What is a pyroclastic flow?
What other hazards come from volcanoes other than the direct eruption?
Mission #3 The ring of fire. List the seven major areas where volcanoes are occurring in the ring of fire by listing the plates that are colliding and an the name of a volcano or mountain range created by the colliding plates.
Mission #4 Interactive Volcano -
- Click on the types of volcanoes found on the left side. Under each type of volcano, write several characteristics (size, type of magma, etc) AND an example of that type of volcano.
- Click on the "build your own volcano" found on the left side. Change the characteristics of the viscosity and amounts of gas until you have found each of the three types of volcanoes. Record the amount of gas and viscosity for each type of volcano and characteristics of each. You may also write something new that you noticed about the eruption.
Mission #5 Pick one active volcano from the list on Volcano World. After finding the volcano, list the following information.
1. Name of volcano
2. Type of volcano and an explanation of why
3. Elevation or size of volcano
4. Latitude and Longitude of volcano
5. Two other facts about the volcano
6. 2 pictures of the volcano
